Introduction to Multimedia its Components and Applications

The term “multimedia” is made up of two words: “multi” and “medium.” It is defined as a variety of media that can be used to deliver digital content.

Multimedia is the combination of two more media such as text, graphics, audio, and video which makes user easy to navigate, interact and communicate.

It also has interactive elements including voice order, mouse manipulation, text entry, touch screen, video capture, and live user participation.

Component of Multimedia

The major components of multimedia are Text, Audio, Graphics, Video and Animation. These elements work together to present knowledge in a clear and understandable manner.

The most popular method of presenting information is through text. Text is commonly used in multimedia for names, headlines, menus, and so on.

Microsoft Word, Notepad, and Word Pad are the most widely used applications for displaying text files. The text files may have extensions such as DOC, TXT, etc.

2. Audio

Audio in multimedia refers to recording, playing, and other similar activities. Audio is a most important component of multimedia because it increases the concept’s understanding and clarity. For example speech, music, and other forms of audio. Its extensions might be .mp3, .wav, etc.

3. Graphics

Graphics are at the heart of any multimedia presentation. They refer to images, digital art, drawings, outlines, sketch, etc. The use of graphics in multimedia increases the usefulness and presentation of the definition.

The extension of Graphics file may be .jpeg, .gif, .tiff, etc.

Adobe Photoshop is a popular graphics editing application that allows you to easily edit graphics and make them more powerful and appealing.

4. Video

Moving pictures with sound are referred to as video. The video part of a multimedia application conveys a great deal of information in a short period of time. Hence, It is the most effective means of communication.

5. Animation

Computer animation is the process of modifying images in such a way that the sequence of images appears to be moving.
